Size & care

A clear size, and a light routine.

Hats, boots, and jackets are cut true to size. Measure once, order the size you already wear, and use the first exchange if the fit is off.

Hat sizing & wool felt care

How to measure

  1. Use a soft tape. A string and a ruler work if that is what you have.
  2. Wrap it where the hat will sit: about half an inch above the ears, across the middle of the forehead.
  3. Keep the tape level and snug, not tight. Read inches and centimeters.
  4. Order that centimeter size on the product page. We cut 55 through 61.

The brim is 3.74 inches. The interior is fully lined. The felt is 100% fine wool. Order your usual hat size.

Brush

A soft brush, light pressure, counterclockwise around the crown. One direction is enough. Do not machine-wash a hat, and do not soak the felt.

Rain

Light rain is fine. Then hang the hat from the crown until it is dry. Do not lay it flat, and do not put it near a heater. When it is dry, steam it to bring the shape back.

How it rests

Set the hat on its crown, or on a stand or a wide peg. Pick it up by the brim. A thin nail dents the felt. For travel, use the rigid box it arrived in.

Leather boot & jacket sizing & care

How it should fit on day 1

Boots are true to size. Order the size you already wear. On the first day the leather is structured: it hugs the instep and the heel, and your toes still have room to move. Close is the fit we cut. Do not go up a size to leave room for a break-in.

Jackets follow standard US sizing. If you are between two jacket sizes, take the larger one. The leather care below is the same for boots and jackets.

  1. Knock off dried mud. Wipe the leather with a dry cloth.
  2. A light rain is fine. Do not soak the leather, and do not stand in water.
  3. Dry it at room temperature, away from a heater or a sunny window.
  4. Use a little colorless conditioner, then buff. Test a hidden spot first, such as the inside of the shaft or under the collar. Conditioner can darken leather slightly.
